The Psalmist Pastor Anthony Johnson
Pastor/songwriter
Founding Pastor of “Psalms of Praise COGIC”
Pastor Johnson was born and raised in Cleveland Ohio. At a young age (7) He burnt up his mother's bedroom trying to learn how to play guitar. Throughout his life he played guitar in various nightclubs and bars. Playing the Blues.
Pastor Johnson has been through many things in his life. In which he's blessed to have a strong testimony led by God. It’s so many things, it's unbelievable. So many things that we could not list here.
He has sailed around the world. He has been on 2 aircraft carriers in the United States Navy the USS Nimitz and the USS John F Kennedy. During this time, he traveled all over the world. Playing his guitar. He has been to places like Africa, Germany, Spain just to name a few.
At one time in his life, he became addicted to crack cocaine. His testimony is unbelievable on how God redeemed home from this life of hell on earth.
He moved to California where he reclaimed his Christianity by giving his life back to Christ. Where he started a group called OSR. Which stands for “Our Savior Reigns!” It was an Evangelist group that traveled throughout Southern California.
Many of the gang members were giving their life back to Christ. He played at a lot of the gang's funerals. He encouraged their loved ones especially the children of the gang members that were killed.
The movement was so strong that the gang leaders eventually put a hit out on pastor Johnson. He had to leave California in fear of losing his life due to the evangelistically movement that he had created.
After leaving California he became a member of Inspirational House of prayer Church of God in Christ in Fairport harbor OH. There he became a minister on trial. He taught Sunday school, vocational Bible school and preached. He was the president of the evangelistic department there. However, he was not allowed to play his guitar in the church. There he worked his way up to elder. After receiving his credentials as elder in the Church of God in Christ. Who left inspirational House of prayer to start his own ministry.
In 2009 pastor Johnson founded Psalms of Praise Church of God in Christ in the city of Painesville OH. Teaching and preaching the gospel of Jesus Christ. He ministered to the homeless. After a lot of trials and errors he decided to close the building that he had due to financial distress. (He was paying al the bills out of his own pocket) With this pastor Johnson became very depressed.
However, God put it on his heart to continue to preach through his music. So, he started to write music to the Lord and bring him praise.
The anointing of God touches him in a way that he had never been touched before. “Standing at the bottom of the Cross!!!”
